All moisturizers work by sealing the skin’s surface and trapping the body’s natural water within the skin’s tissue, as oil is far more effective in sealing and moisturizing than water, the more oil your moisturizer contains the better it will work.
DIY body oils that have been made with pure essential oils then diluted with the appropriate carrier oil won’t contain any hidden water and has to be one of the best body treatments you can use.
Never use more than the suggested quantities, essential oils don’t become more effective by using extra, in fact it may even have a negative effect.
Try to make your body oil in small batches so that they are always fresh, if however you really must make up a large batch, add 1 teaspoon of Wheat Germ Oil or 1 vitamin E capsule to it (unless of course you happen to be using wheat germ oil as your carrier oil) as the wheat germ oil and vitamin E are both natural preservatives.
Important – All your diy body oil should contain 15 drops of essential oil diluted in 12 teaspoons of carrier oil or as directed.
Choosing the right oils to match your skin type are particularly important as to how quickly the oils are absorbed into the skin, here is a list of the best carrier oils and essential oils to use for different skin types and individual problem areas.
Step 1: Make sure the glass bottles are clean and that all lids fit securely. Dry the glasses completely by placing them upside in the dishwasher or counter top with a towel underneath.
Step 2: Fill the glass bottle 3/4 of the way from the top with the preferred oils. This will prevent the oils from spilling out once you put the pump inside.
Step 3: Add 5-10 drops of essential or fragrance oil. Allow the drops to penetrate the oil. Let rest for 10 minutes.
Step 4: Put the pump dispenser inside the bottle and shake to evenly distribute. Pump a small amount of the oil in your hand. From the point you can add more oils for a stronger scent if you prefer.
